Procession Fragment

Michael Hearn is an artist whose main focus as a painter has been on fresco murals since 1986. He learned to paint in buon fresco in a program taught by artist Walter O'Neil, and continued study in Italy at a studio run by Leonetto Tintori, a mural conservator.

Mr. Hearn paints in buon fresco on permanently installed murals. He also uses the auto-stacco technique, which simply put, is a portable fresco on a panel that still uses the same chemistry as buon fresco, but allows the painting to be detached for ease of transporting. This is particularly useful for working off-site and for being able to move a piece if one is changing residences.

He has completed more than twenty-five murals for schools and commissions and has been teaching in workshops and school programs for almost twelve years. The scale of his frescoes can range from an intimate portrait size to an entire wall area. Modest scale murals can be done in a relatively short time from two weeks to a month. Site specific fresco murals such as for above a fireplace can be obtained at an affordable price.

The artist has appeared on the Linette Jennings program to demonstrate the auto-stacco technique. He currently lives in Philadelphia.
